Ge 4:23, 24—Why did Lamech compose this poem? (it-2 192 ¶5)

The poem that Lamech composed for his wives (Ge 4:23, 24) reflects the violent spirit of that day. Lamech’s poem ran: “Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech; give ear to my saying: A man I have killed for wounding me, yes, a young man for giving me a blow. If seven times Cain is to be avenged, then Lamech seventy times and seven.” Evidently Lamech was presenting a case of self-defense, pleading that his act was not one of deliberate murder, like that of Cain. Lamech claimed that, in defending himself, he had killed the man who struck and wounded him. Therefore, his poem stood as a plea for immunity against anyone desiring to get revenge against him for killing his attacker.

Ge 4:26—In what way apparently did people in Enosh’s day begin “calling on the name of Jehovah”? (it-1 338 ¶2)

The “calling on the name of Jehovah” that started in the time of Enosh during the pre-Flood period must not have been of an upright and proper nature, for Abel long before that had undoubtedly been directing himself to God by the divine name. (Ge 4:26; Heb 11:4) If, as some scholars hold, this calling on God’s name was in the sense of misusing it and improperly applying Jehovah’s name to humans or to idolatrous objects, then this would constitute a blasphemous act.—See ENOSH, ENOS.

Ge 3:4-5:  Satan implied not only that Jehovah had withheld crucial information from Eve but also that He had lied to her. Satan maintained that Jehovah was not exercising His sovereignty in a righteous way and in the best interests of His subjects. What a down fall this has cause mankind to be in, for the proof is all around us.

Ge 3:4:  The teaching immortality of the soul as taught today we cannot say if it originate in Eden, but the teaching of the immortality of the human soul must have come about after the Flood. One thing we can be sure that “the father of the lie,” Satan the Devil, was behind it and was pleased to see it spread widely. (John 8:44)

Ge 3:8:  The Bible reveals that when God spoke to imperfect humans, it was often through an angel. (Gen 16:7-11; 18:1-3, 22-26; 19:1; Jg 2:1-4; 6:11-16, 22; 13:15-22) God’s chief spokesman was his only-begotten Son, called “the Word.” (John 1:1) So it most likely God spoke to Adam and Eve through “the Word.” (Ge 1:26-28; 2:16; 3:8-13)

Ge 3:9-10:  When we try to hide from the face of someone, it is often due to a troubled conscience, causing fear and shame. This is the feeling Adam felt that way when he replied to Jehovah: “I was afraid… I hid myself.” At no time was there any indication of repents on the part of Adam or his wife.

Ge 3:12:  Here we see that when one has a troubled conscience they try to save face. This is what Adam did here he failed to accept responsibility for his sin but tried to place the blame on the woman and Jehovah God himself by the words “The woman whom YOU gave.”  May we always say we are sorry for our own mistake and make Jehovah happy?

Ge 3:15:  Despite what Satan did in Eden, Jehovah held out hope for mankind in the first Bible prophecy we see here. This offspring Jesus is to crush the serpent’s head, that is, “bring to nothing” the spirit creature Satan and his works. May we put our trust in Jehovah the one keep his word. (Heb 2:14, 1 John 3:8), Re 12:9)

Ge 3:16-23:  Happiness is dependent on our recognizing Jehovah’s sovereignty in our personal life and doing his will. For we see here the punishment that Adam and Eve brought into the world of mankind pain, suffering and death.

Ge 3:18-19: Jehovah’s word always comes true like the curse pronounced on the ground meant that cultivating it would now become very difficult. The effects of the cursed ground, with its thorns and thistles, were so keenly felt by Adam’s descendants that Noah’s father, Lamech, spoke of that pain at Ge 5:29 because Jehovah has cursed the ground.

Ge 3:19: The punishment is death and we return to dust where we were taken from.  Adam did not go to heaven or pass on to some spirit realm. He had no existence before Jehovah created him from the dust of the ground.  So Adam could not pass on some kind of immoral soul. (Ps 104:29, 130:14;Ec 3:20; 12:7; Job 10;9; 1Co 15:47)

Ge 3:22, 24: The tree of life in the Garden of Eden represented God’s guarantee of everlasting life. Even Revelations speak of the Tree of life which it points to Jehovah’s provision through Jesus for giving everlasting life to obedient mankind.  This is something we can look forward to and encourage us to give sacrifices of praise to Jehovah wholeheartedly. (Ge 2:9, Re 22:12-20)

Ge 4:3-7:  Jehovah was pleased with Abel’s offering because he was a righteous man of faith. Abel must have built up a record of living according to Jehovah’s standards. His older brother was unlikely to have been a positive influence because Cain’s heart had become wicked and his works was wicked. (1Jo 3:12; Heb 11:4)

Ge 4:7:  We need to heed the warnings that Jehovah gives us, if we do not our life can turn out like Cain. Jehovah’s eyes can penetrate our heart; we cannot conceal our true inclinations and motivations from him. Our loving Father wants us to follow the pathways of righteousness; yet, he does not force us to change the course we are on. (Jer 17:10; Pr 17:3; 21:2; 1Sa 16:7)

Ge 4:8: This is an example of wrong desire not kept in check. James 1:14-15  14 ”But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn sin, when it has been carried out, brings forth death. Yes, wrong desires can cause a person pain to himself and maybe too others.

Ge 5:21-22: Enoch a prophet of Jehovah who courageously walked with God for 300 by pursuing an upright course amid his wicked contemporaries. Jehovah also strengthened Enoch to deliver a powerful message because of their ungodly words and deeds. Jehovah fulfilled his judgment in the global Flood of Noah’s day, which should encourage us for ungodly people of our day will soon be destroyed. (Jude 14-15; Re 16:14-16; 19:11-16)

Ge 5:23-24: Jehovah did not take Enoch to heaven and the reason me know this is because what Jesus said at John 3:13 “no man has ascended into heaven.” Paul tell us at Heb 11:5 that Enoch did “not to see death,” which may mean that God put him in a prophetic trance and then terminated his life so he did not suffer, or “see death.
